As daily sound could reflect a city/country's cultural and traditional features,
I'm interested in the distinction of sound that inhabitant produce in daily life in different cities and countries.
I propose to create a series of installations called"Can you show me your sound?"
Stage 1:I will design a series of visualization installations(LED screen:height 1 m*width 2m).
When there have sound,it will trigger the visual effects that I preset.
All the visual effects will be depended on the volume, duration and frequence of sound and
will be recorded in the memories of the installations.
Stage 2:The installations will be placed in the specific public areas like markets, communities,
bus stops, parks, museums where unique sound will be produced by inhabitants in
both city of XX(xx) and Shanghai(China).
Stage 3:After a period of time(it will be depended on the situation of that time),the memories of
both cities will be changed,
and during the next period of time, the visualization of XXX's daily sound will be watched by
Chinese people living in Shanghai, and vice versa.I will do some field investigation(interviews,
field recordings, videos) to record people's reflection when dealing with the installations at this stage.
The project examine the relationship of daily sound and this city's public realm. As sound could not
be watched directly,I device the idea to create visualization to "show" the sound. This project
will be a way to exchange culture and tradition between XXX and China.
